A highlight of any trip to New Mexico, White sands is well worth a visit. Here, gypsum, a chalk mineral used to make plaster of Paris, covers 275 sq miles to create a dazzling white sea of sand.
From the visitor center a 16 mile scenic drive loop leads into the heart of the park - I took the time to get out of my car and climb, romp and hike in the soft dunes.
