Mission San Francisco de Asis or Mission Dolores is the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco. The mission was founded on June 29, 1776 by Jose Joaquin Moraga.
At its peak the in 1810-1820 the mission had more than 1100 Pueblo Dolores Indians. It was a farming community with hotels, ranches, hospitals and schools. The mission also owned thousands of cattle and horses. Its ranching extended as far as San mateo and Alameda.
