Hampi - Southern India

2012

The austure, grandiose site of Hampi was the last capital of the great Hindu Kingdom of Vijayanagar. Its fabulously rich princes built Dravidian temples and palaces. The city fell for the muslim ruler of South India and was pillaged for six months before being abandoned.
The most interesting sites to see in Hampi are the Virupaksha Temple, Hampi Bazaar, Big Shiva Linga, Vithala temple (Stone Chariot), Hazara Rama Temple and Zanana enclosure.
